I've began to create my own little business/world, and so I needed to learn what goes into making a strong brand. I know there are a lot of creators out there today coming face to face with the reality of this, so I figured I'd share a quick bit on what I've learned so far:
Building your own brand can be, a daunting task.
It seems like it will be a breeze at first - but then, you dive in a little deeper and realize there is so much that goes into it.
Who are you, what do you offer, what tone or rhythm do you want to convey, what colors represent your brand, etc?
So. Many. Factors.
Whether you like it or not, we all have a brand. Your brand is how your friends, family, boyfriend, and coworkers see YOU.
As I mentioned above, I’ve become obsessed with learning more about this because I've been needing to shape my own brand. As an artist, stylist, and content creator, having a strong identity is essential to success.
So, what do you need to do to start building your own brand? While I didn't major in this in college, I can speak to some points through my own experience. I've noticed it breaks down into three major categories: Brand strategy, identity, and marketing.
Let's dive in a little deeper:
Brand Strategy:
Laying the groundwork for why your brand matters.
1.) Who are you?
2.) Who are you trying to speak to?
3.) Why should that audience trust you?
Brand Identity:
How you want to convey yourself to the public.
1.) Your logo/colors/fonts
2.) Your website/landing page/socials
3.) Your packaging or product/service aesthetic
Brand Marketing: How you bring awareness/amplify knowledge of your brand's products/services.
1.) User experience of anything tied to your brand (website, landing page, etc.)
2.) Content/Social Media marketing
3.) Referrals and reputation
The more clarity you can get on who you are and what you are presenting to the world, the stronger of a brand you will have. I've had to ask myself these questions lately and realized it took a lot of thought to get the answers. However, it's been fun getting to better understand myself and what I'm offering to the world.
If you have found yourself in the position of needing to establish your own business/artistic identity, I highly suggest sitting down and writing out your own answers. I've also found calling a friend and talking through it really helps as well.
Hope this helps kickstart turning that thing you've been dreaming about into a reality :)
