Current Food Favs (LA)
I'm almost on year three of living here so I'm becoming more weathered on the good spots to hit for vegan/healthy-ish food (emphasis on *more weathered*. There's literally so many places out here I'm just getting started lol). A list of some of my current favs:
Amara Kitchen (Highland Park) - good for a filling, healthy lunch. Vegan and non-vegan options. Bakery treats as well.
H.O.P.E. Kitchen (Studio City) - vegan thai food, nice sit down dinner or good takeout. (this is where my yummy thai tea is from)
Intelligentsia (Silver Lake) - this is a pretty well-known coffee spot, so I'm nothing unique suggesting this but I will say I prefer the one in Silver Lake above anywhere else. I've tried the Hollywood one and its got vibes, but not as cool as Silver Lake's location. (My go-to order: unsweetened matcha latte w almond or oat milk)
Priscilla's Coffee & Tea (Burbank) - Not my favorite matcha spot but it's a cute little coffee shop where lots of people go to get work done. You see a lot of film people writing or reading scripts. Always fun to overhear conversations. hahaha
Gracias Madre (West Hollywood) - I've been going to Gracias Madre since I moved out here. I've spent 2 birthdays here and taken family whenever they visited. Why do I like it so much? Truthfully it's the only vegan restaurant that doesn't scream "I'm vegan" and actually feels like fine dining. Eating out as a vegan is sometimes a lot because every place has the word "vegan", "green," or "healthy" written in the name. Which, isn't a bad thing like it only makes sense but sometimes I just wanna feel like a normal human being? Lol. Also there aren't many vegan restaurants I've found that are sit down, get served by an actual waiter type of dinner. Thank you Gracias Madre for offering this. We love.
Something Vegan (Burbank) - Supporting my claim that most vegan restaurants love to put the word "vegan" their name.... lol. No, all jokes aside, I actually love this place. Good portions and very filling. I never sit down at the restaurant and eat, but it is my go-to takeout spot for a weekend night where I want to stay in. Always good and always comforting.
Wabi (Venice) - Good sushi on the westside in a CUTE, VIBEY restaurant. I'm literally shouting this out because this was my first job when I moved out here and if the restaurant is anything like when I worked there it's super fun and right on Rose Ave. Pink booths and good music. Fun alcoholic beverages. Yummy sushi made by Chef Rain. Literally what more do you need.
Erin McKenna's Bakery (Larchmont) - I've talked about this place before because I love it. Looking for a vegan dessert??? This is the spot. This bakery originated in New York (which I went to and it was bomb) so I was stoked to hear it was also out here in LA. Bless the vegan cupcake gods for they have granted us with the perfect selection of vegan guilty-pleasures. Amen.
